Week 4

Lee's grandparents, Grandmommy and Grandaddy came for a visit on Friday.  Henry loved meeting his great-grandparents.  Henry is lucky enough to have 4 great-grandparents.  Grandmommy was able to put Henry to sleep- thank you!!  Henry has his first bath in his tub.  He loved it!  He was so peaceful and relaxed.  I think we will need to make baths part of his bedtime routine.  On Saturday, Lee's parents, Mimi and Pop Pop, and my mom, Honey came up for the day.  Honey stayed with Henry while we went with Lee's parents to the UNC game.  It was a hot game but so much fun!  Henry did great with Honey.  Honey was so excited to keep Henry.  I was worried that when I returned, Honey would not be there because she would be on the road with Henry heading back to Charlotte.  Thankfully, they were both there when I returned home from the game.

One Month!!!!

I can't believe Henry is a month old!! Time is flying! We have enjoyed every minute with Henry.  It has been so nice to have Lee home with Henry and me.  When Lee first decided to take off 6 weeks, I was not so excited because I thought we would kill each other.  I was soooo wrong!  It has been wonderful having Lee home.  I will forever treasure our time together these first few weeks of Henry's life.

Size- Henry is growing quickly!  Maybe too quickly for his mom and dad.  Henry was born 7 lbs 12 oz and 20 1/2 inches long.  When we left the hospital he was 7 lbs 4 oz.  At one week, he was 7 lbs 9 oz.  At 2 weeks, Henry was 8 lbs, which put him in the 25th percentile.  At 5 weeks, old he weighed 9 lbs 9 oz, which is 50th percentile.  My baby is growing up too fast!! He was 21 inches long, which is 50th percentile.  Henry wears 0-3 month clothes but can still fit in his newborn clothes.  I am not sure how much longer the newborn clothes will fit.  The 0-3 month outfits used to be huge on him but he is definitely beginning to fill them out now.  He is still wearing newborn diapers but probably only for a few more weeks.

Development- Henry has become much more alert the last few weeks.  He enjoys looking around especially at lights and black and white objects.  Henry is getting stronger and stronger.  He enjoys tummy time and holding his head up.  He is already a mover.  While at the beach, he wiggled himself from Lee to Aunt Ashley on the couch.  We were impressed with 2 week old abilities.  We might be in for it once he starts crawling.  Last weekend, Henry gave us his first smile of excitement while Lee's dad was talking to him.  It was so cute!! I hope to see more smiles in the coming weeks. Henry is able to grasp onto our fingers and his pacifier.  He is pretty good at holding his paci in his mouth. He also makes many different noises- grunts, gurgles, and a few coos!

Personality- We are still trying to figure Henry out. The first few weeks, he was very gassy, which made him a bit fussy. Once we got the gas under control, he has been much more content and happy. On Sunday, he acted like a typical guy and watched football on the couch with Lee. Such a chilled little baby. I am sure he is going to be a sports fan like his dad. I am thinking he is going to be independent like me. Sometimes he is much more content to be sitting alone on his Boppy than with me. I am hoping he will let me hold him more and more as the months go on before he starts crawling. I feel like once that happens he will never want to be held. If Henry is content then don't change his position. He will let you know that he is not happy that you moved him.

Eating- Henry is a big eater!! During the day, he eats about every 3 hours. In the evenings before bed he eats about every 1 1/2-3 hours. Thankfully Henry will take a bottle so mommy can have a break. He takes about 3-4 oz. I think he has gone through one growth spurt and is on his second. He is growing fast!!

Sleeping- Henry is a pretty good sleeper. During the day, he normally takes a few cat naps and one longer nap. After going through a growth spurt, he tends to sleep the day away. We get a lot done on those days!! He loves to nap in his car seat and swing. This month we are going to work on getting him to take at least one nap in his crib a day. At night, he is a great sleeper!!! He normally sleeps one long stretch between 4-6 hours and then goes back down for another 3 hours. We are very happy with his nighttime sleep schedule!! Two nights ago, he slept for 7 1/2 hours!!!! We were thrilled! Of course, last night night he slept for about a 4 1/2 hour stretch. As everyone keeps telling me they have no schedule and once you think you figured it out it changes again. Henry has been sleeping in his room in a bassinet. He started in our room when we brought him home but he made too many noises and I couldn't sleep so we put him in his room. Tonight, I am going to transition him to his crib. We will see how that goes.

Likes/Dislikes- Henry loves baths. He is so peaceful and relaxed in the tub. He enjoys being outside. The minute we walk out the front door he becomes silent. He likes going for walks in his stroller. Henry likes to be held in the upright position. He loves his pacifier!!

Milestones- In one week, Henry experienced a hurricane and an earthquake! Pretty miraculous for a two week old.

Henry- Week 3 at the beach!

Hard to believe our little man is already 3 weeks old- and weighs 8 pounds!

After 2 weeks at home in Durham, we decided a change of scenery might be nice- so we headed to South Carolina to the beach for the week! We were blessed with awesome weather and no rain until the very last day. Lee's family came down for the long Labor Day weekend and it was fun to see little Samantha (our 2 year old niece) and Henry interact...or rather watch Samantha try to give Henry his pacifier!

We hauled the BoB dual stroller down and despite the difficulty it caused in packing the car and the disruption is caused to the poor dog's palace in the trunk...it was well worth it! We took walks on the beach nearly everyday with it!

The little guy is now 2 weeks old and gaining great weight- he's up to 8 pounds! Great job mom and baby!

He also had his first sponge bath and first bottle this past week- both went well.

Ashley's Aunt Kay visited from Virginia and Henry loved when Aunt Kay sang to him.

Ashley's parents also visited this past weekend- it was wonderful to have help- and Henry LOVES his grandparents!

We're Home!

We got the okay to come home from hospital yesterday evening! We arrived home to a stork in our front yard welcoming the newest addition to our family. Henry had a great night and we actually got some sleep as well. Lawson is still a little suspicious and is definitely adjusting to no longer being "the top dog" in the house...but she is doing just fine. Ashley's mom is here with us and is a HUGE help- we're so lucky to have her!

Doctor's Appointment Update

We just got back from the doctor.  We started with an ultrasound.  The technician got a few shots of the baby's face and thinks the baby has Lee's nose.  Hopefully, it will look somewhat like me.  The ultrasound showed the baby moving a lot, trying to breathe on it own, and there was plenty of fluid around the baby.  The baby's heart rate was a little low so I was hooked up to a fetal heart rate monitor/contraction monitor.  The doctor came in and said that the baby's heart rate was on the lower end of normal, but as the doctor said, "the important word there is normal".  He consulted with another doctor and it was decided to leave the baby alone and wait it out.  The monitor recorded that I was having some contractions but I am not feeling them.  I am 3 cm dilated so I did make progress from Tuesday when I was 2 cm!  That is one step in the right direction.  The doctor stripped my membranes, which is one way to induce labor.  It works for some women and for some women it has no effect.  It did not hurt me as some think it is very painful.  So, maybe I have a high tolerance for pain????? I am hoping so.  Hurry up Baby H!!! We want to meet you.

40 Weeks With No Action

We are thankful to have made it to 40 weeks but really wish this baby was here to celebrate.  I am feeling great! No contractions- nothing!!!  Still working out daily but even that doesn't get this baby moving.  He/she must be very comfortable.  Lee is now on leave so I am grateful that he is able to entertain me during this waiting period, which I hope won't be too much longer.  We go to the doctor tomorrow morning for a checkup and ultrasound.  I am looking forward to seeing Baby H!!!  We will update tomorrow after the doctor's appointment.

40 Weeks!!!

I am hoping there will not be a 41 week picture of me but a picture of sweet Baby H!!!

Nursery Preview

We are finally ready to share pictures of the nursery.  I have really enjoyed putting together Baby H's room.  I hope he or she loves it as much as I do.  This nursery could not have been put together the way it was without the help of our loving family members.  Thank you so much to mom and dad, Lee's parents, BB and Daddy BB, and Grandmommy and Grandaddy for their contributions!!!  Oh, and thank you to my loving husband, Lee, for putting together the crib and book shelf, hanging everything on the walls, and carrying all this heavy furniture in the house by himself.  I can be quite demanding.  Once we know the sex of Baby H, we will be adding some more pink or blue accents to the walls, bookshelf, and chest.  We will update later with final pictures of the nursery.

6 Days and Counting.....

I can't believe we are 6 days away from Baby H's due date. Yesterday was my last day of working camp so I am officially on maternity leave. I do not due well sitting still so hopefully this baby will choose to come sooner rather than later. Hopefully, not this weekend since my family is heading to Birmingham for Bradley's graduation.  Here are the most recent pics. I have thought Baby H was a boy for so long but recently I am starting to think it is a girl. Lee thinks it is whatever I don't. He likes to make it interesting. What do you think???
